Pump Curves can be used to determine if a pump is suited for a particular application.

You will need to know the Flow Rate (Q, usually denoted in gph = gallons per hour) and the Head (H, usually denoted in ft) for your application.

Use the pump curve chart for a particular pump and find the point where these to values intersect:

If this point is below the pump curve, the pump will deliver enough pressure and flow for the application;

If the point is above the pump curve, the pump does not meet the requirements and a more powerful pump has to be chosen.

This method can also be used to match desired nozzle performance with the right pump.
